Welcome to Pillar 4: Collaboration

Support for R

Pillar 4 is about strengthening the people side of IEPs.

This pillar supports teachers who are navigating communication with families, general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff — especially when collaboration feels exhausting or unclear.

You don’t need perfect meetings to move forward.

What you do need is shared understanding, clear expectations, and systems that support communication before challenges arise.

Pillar 4 connects directly to ANCHOR:

When your timelines are anchored,
your priorities are named,
and your data is organized…

Collaboration becomes easier, not because everyone changes, but because you feel more prepared.

How to Use This Pillar

Use this pillar when you’re:

  • Feeling frustrated with team communication
  • Wanting clearer roles and expectations
  • Looking for tools to support family involvement
  • Ready to refine how you collaborate with staff

You don’t need to complete every activity here.

Choose the tools that match the conversations you’re having right now.

Here are optional exercises you can work through as you’re ready:

☐ Identify members of each student’s IEP team
☐ Complete the IEP Team Member form and share with families
☐ Set up Services Sign-In and Related Service Reminders
☐ Begin using a Contact Log to track communication
☐ Implement the Collaboration Form in your classroom
☐ Update your Professional Development Log (in Member Resources)

These are supports, not requirements.

The Goal of Pillar 4

By the end of this pillar, the goal isn’t perfect teamwork. The goal is confidence.

Most teachers leave this pillar feeling:

  • More empowered in meetings
  • More prepared to communicate clearly
  • More confident setting expectations
  • Better equipped to include families and students in meaningful ways

This pillar helps you move from frustration to partnership.

Take what you need. Build systems that support you. And remember: collaboration is a skill, and you’re actively building it.
